REMCAN - Case study
REMCAN Projects
REMCAN is a rapidly growing, national railway service provider with headquarters in Langley BC. They approached KILO at the beginning of 2020 to convert their current classroom content to an online format. Up until that time, they were spending over a half a million dollars every year to get their staff into classrooms for training across the country. They wanted a more cost-effective approach to training, and wanted staff to be able to complete some of the theoretical training in a self-paced manner. An eLearning/classroom blended approach started off as a “nice-to-have” for their 2020 corporate goals, but soon came as an absolute necessity with the onset of COVID.
The Challenge
January 2020 KILO did a complete analysis of current training requirements and uncovered these business challenges:
Up to 500 employees needed to be trained and were spread across the country
Some training is mandatory under safety regulations – staff need to be compliant in certain areas (needed a passing grade to be compliant)
There was a tight timeline to get all of the courses done, as they were expecting a merger in a few months and would have to train 100+ new people
There was a variety of courses required – both technical and soft skills
Users and administration staff were (admittedly) not technically savvy, and were not interested in complex technical solutions
Content was in a variety of formats – PowerPoint, Excel, Word and were sometimes incomplete
Some classroom content needed to be rewritten in an eLearning format
REMCAN wanted new courses that had no existing content
Users were most likely to do eLearning on a mobile device
There is often an influx of new hires yearly
The Solution
KILO then:
Researched a variety of LMSs based on REMCAN’s requirements
Recommended Articulate Rise based on ease of use and simple interface, mobile capabilities, and meeting all of REMCAN’s other requirements
Supported and trained REMCAN staff on Rise
Created a training manual and reference guides
Managed the entire course development and LMS implementation process
KILO worked with REMCAN to:
Implement Rise as their LMS
Communicate to REMCAN staff the changes to training approach
Create 30 new courses and upload to Rise
Run reports in Rise
Create an explainer video for new hires
The Results
REMCAN now has:
A user-friendly LMS that the administration team can troubleshoot on their own when issues arise
The ability to run real-time reports on courses and participants
Staff that are adapting to the new way of training at REMCAN
Staff that are now compliant in certain safety areas
Staff that are well-trained and tested on safety principles before they get into a classroom, where they are taught hands-on practices
A robust new hire package for their next acquisition or merger
Over 30 courses that are currently being taken by 200+ participants, mostly on their mobile devices
A library of courses that were delivered on time, and under budget
